Ivan Townshend
Biography
Dr. Ivan Townshend is and urban/social/economic geographer with wide-ranging research interests in the social geography of cities, structure of urban systems and urban hierarchies, and rural community processes. These include the social and economic dimensionality of neighbourhood differentiation and change; multivariate typologies of neighbourhoods; geography of aging; residential segregation; geography of employment, deprivation, disadvantage, and income inequality; economic integration of aboriginal communities; voluntary sector housing provision; privatization of space and gated communities; community health; and the geography of well-being and resilience in communities affected by natural disasters.
Dr. Townshend is a Professor in the Department of Geography and Environment at the University of Lethbridge, is a founding member and Research Affiliate of the Prentice Institute for Global Population and Demography, and serves on the Academic Advisory Committee of the International Geographical Union Urban Commission.
